CS Mounting Systems began with a simple idea in the early 1980s. Back then, our founder was running a successful agency in the construction industry but had a strong interest in computers and new technology. When a company in Montreal sought someone to sell Augmentative Communication equipment in British Columbia, he took on the challenge and quickly became the BC representative for several key brands.
In 1983, a life-changing opportunity arose. A major children’s rehabilitation center reached out for help with mounting speech devices on wheelchairs. Although similar equipment was available, no one had a effective way to attach these devices. Our founder promised to solve this problem.
After discovering that even experts had no clear solution, he designed a system using two-part clamps and stainless steel tubes to create adjustable mounts. While developing the parts, he met Geof Webb, who suggested a folding mount feature inspired by university lecture hall chairs. Together, they created the first folding mounting system, which was a great success at its debut.
Despite early setbacks, including safety concerns with the initial folding design, they refined the system into the safe, reliable product still used today. The first rolling frame style mount was even sketched on a napkin during a flight home.
In the early 1990s, CS Mounting Systems was formed as an independent company, becoming the exclusive supplier for major brands like ACS and Dynavox. One of the company’s key innovations, the Wedge Base system, set a standard used worldwide and remains compatible with modern adapters from companies like Rehadapt.
Today, CS Mounting Systems proudly serves as the Canadian distributor for Rehadapt, continuing its commitment to providing innovative, high-quality mounting solutions for Augmentative Communication devices.
